Our promise to you

Returns & Exchanges

Bridal and formal wear is highly personal — and many items are special-ordered to your measurements. Here's exactly how we handle returns, exchanges, and defective items, so there are no surprises.

Effective May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026

The short version

We want you to feel confident about every purchase from Lis De La Valle. At the same time, the nature of bridal and formal wear — much of which is custom-ordered or altered to fit you specifically — means we can't accept returns the way a general retailer can.

At a glance:

  • Special orders & altered items — final sale
  • Off-the-rack stock dresses — 7-day exchange for store credit, with tags & receipt
  • Accessories (jewelry, veils, undergarments) — not returnable, for hygiene reasons
  • Tuxedo rentals — follow Jim's Formal Wear contract
  • Defective merchandise — always made right

Special Orders

Special orders include bridal gowns, made-to-measure menswear, custom prom dresses, and anything we order in your size from a designer's collection after you place a deposit.

Because these pieces are manufactured for you — often by hand, and weeks or months in advance — special orders are final sale. The non-refundable deposit and final balance cannot be refunded once the order is placed with the designer.

We'll always walk you through the order details, expected delivery window, and total cost before any deposit is collected. If you have any uncertainty, please ask before signing — we'd much rather take an extra appointment than place an order you're not sure about.

Off-the-Rack Stock

Off-the-rack stock dresses (dresses you took home directly from our showroom floor, in our stocked size and color) may be exchanged within 7 days of purchase, provided they meet all of the following:

  • Original tags are still attached
  • The original receipt is presented
  • The dress is unworn, unwashed, and free of alterations, stains, makeup, or odors
  • The exchange happens at our Pulaski location within 7 days of the purchase date

Approved exchanges are processed as store credit only — we do not issue refunds to the original payment method. Store credit never expires and can be used toward any item or service in the boutique.

Accessories

For health and hygiene reasons, accessories are not returnable or exchangeable. This includes:

  • Jewelry (earrings, necklaces, bracelets, hair pieces)
  • Veils and headpieces
  • Undergarments, shapewear, and slips
  • Hosiery and garters
  • Anything that has come into contact with skin, hair, or makeup

We're happy to help you try accessories with your gown during your fitting so you can be sure before you buy.

Tuxedo Rentals

As an authorized retailer for Jim's Formal Wear, all tuxedo and formal-suit rentals follow Jim's Formal Wear rental contract terms, which you'll sign when you place your order.

The key points:

  • Deposits are non-refundable once the rental is ordered.
  • Cancellations may be possible before the rental is shipped to our store — call us as soon as possible if plans change.
  • Sizing issues caught at pickup are made right at no charge — that's the whole point of the in-store fitting.
  • Rentals must be returned by the date specified on your contract. Late returns incur fees set by Jim's Formal Wear.
  • Damage beyond normal wear (rips, large stains, missing pieces) may incur replacement charges per the rental contract.

We always recommend trying on the actual rental pieces in-store before the event so we can spot and correct any sizing issues with time to spare.

Consignment Items

Pre-owned consignment items are sold as-is. They have been inspected and cleaned to the best of our ability, and we describe their condition honestly at the time of sale.

Because these are one-of-a-kind pieces with a previous owner, consignment sales are final. Please take your time to try the piece on and inspect it before purchasing — we're glad to give you all the time you need.

Defective Merchandise

If you discover a manufacturing defect — a seam that's coming apart, a hidden tear, broken hardware, or anything else that wasn't there when you bought the item — we will always make it right.

Contact us as soon as you notice the issue. Depending on the situation we may repair the item, exchange it for another in the same style, or work with the designer or manufacturer to resolve it on your behalf. Bring the item and your receipt to the boutique whenever possible.

Items After Alterations

Once a dress, suit, or tuxedo has been altered to your measurements — whether by us or by a third-party tailor — it can no longer be returned or exchanged. Alterations are permanent modifications made specifically for you, and the piece is no longer in re-sellable condition.

We always confirm fit and silhouette before any cuts are made. If you have concerns mid-alteration, tell us right away — we'd rather pause and re-fit than discover an issue after the work is done.

How to Start a Return or Exchange

  1. Call us first at (540) 980-0543. A quick call lets us check the item against this policy and book a short appointment for the exchange.
  2. Bring the item, original tags, and your receipt to the boutique at 71 Commerce St, Suite 1367, Pulaski, VA 24301 during business hours.
  3. We'll inspect the item with you and process the exchange on the spot if it qualifies. Store credit is issued to your name and can be used immediately.

Emergencies & Last-Minute Issues

Have a wedding tomorrow and something has gone wrong? Call us at (540) 980-0543 right away. We've been at this for fifteen years and we'll find a way to help — whether that's a same-day alteration, a rental loaner, or a creative solution we haven't thought of yet.
